Never lose hope! Storms make people stronger and never last forever.

Roy T. Bennet

When the pandemic started in March 2020, this cardinal and his wife had a nest in a large bush right off my back porch in Wisconsin. For weeks, our family watched them as they came out to shine and visit our bird feeder. Any time that I see a cardinal I am reminded of the people close to me who have passed away; especially my mom. When I see cardinals in nature they make me pause and reflect on my departed loved ones and they bring me peace with their bright red color. I chose this quote because I want to encourage people to persevere through trials in their lives.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

I took the photo at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Just one of our favorite places to go to connect with nature.

While weathering a storm choose to shine.

Several of my favorite things on earth are in this picture; flowers, a pumpkin, and the first big snow of the year. Any of these things alone would have made me smile, but all three together seemed pretty magical. To me, it’s so important to look for the magic in life. We deal with a lot in life; so always look for the silver linings and enjoy them.

Kris, 4-time Cancer Survivor

Gratitude turns what we have into enough.

I fell in love with lighthouses after my daughter Ashley passed away in 2003. They are a beacon of light and of hope for me. Then, on New Year’s Eve 2020, my mom suddenly passed away. I turned to visiting the Milwaukee Harbor lighthouse to find a calmness and hope that seems to have been lost again. The quote was from my mom written in her handwriting amongst her things. It is a quote I will cherish and have just tattooed in remembrance of her.

If you listen carefully, the silence is beautiful.

While away at a scrapbook crop this past January, I went for a morning walk in the park in Lake Delavan, Wisconsin to quietly enjoy nature and take a few pictures. It was a short walk along a pathway because of the single-digit temperature, but worth it for this glimpse of winter beauty. There’s just something about being alone in nature that brings me joy and peace.
